Weddings are usually a time for love, laughter, celebration and a memorable gathering of family and loved ones. But a wedding in Telangana turned ‘memorable’ for all the wrong reasons after a scuffle broke out between the bride and the groom’s family members apparently because of the food served at the function.

As per local reports, guests at the wedding got embroiled in an ugly fight after the groom’s family complained that they were served chicken at the wedding feast instead of mutton. A video reportedly of the scuffle at the wedding, which quickly went viral on social media, supposedly showed the guests throwing chairs at each other inside a makeshift tent.

The incident is said to have taken place at in Uppusaka village in Bhadradri Kothagudem district on February 22.

However, in a twist to the story, the police have reportedly confirmed that the scuffle at the wedding feast in Telangana did not take place because the bridegroom’s family was served chicken instead of mutton for lunch. Speaking to The News Minute, Kothagudem police said that friends of the groom had arrived at the wedding in an inebriated state and had picked up a fight with the bride’s family members at the venue when they went up the stage to garland the couple.

The police said that the groom’s friends, all residents of Kothagudem, went to wish the couple but the stage could not accommodate all of them, which led to the chaos and clash at the event.

“When they went on the dias, it couldn’t accommodate all of them, and someone from the bride’s side told them to get down. Agitated by this, they picked a fight with them, and this led to a clash between the two groups,” CI of Burgampad, Ramesh told the news portal.

At least 10 people were injured in the incident, and the fight apparently continued in the hospital as well, where the injured were undergoing treatment, the report said.

However, the police clarified that reports of the fight between the two groups over mutton were “false.” A police probe into the incident is underway and cops are yet to make an arrest in the case.
