Washington Post Making A Huge Mistake By Biased Reporting On India
Not only the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but most Indians have slammed the editorial policy of the Washington Post, which has been acting in the most biased manner and seems to be totally agenda-driven, which is to be anti Indian.
Vijay Chauthaiwale, chief of the BJP’s foreign affairs Cell, said that there was “a lot of problem” with the newspaper’s coverage of India, which are evident from its biased Headlines and other news coverage. “I am not opposing Amazon as a company. In fact, I am a regular customer… Jeff Bezos should go home tell Washington Post what is his impression about India,”said Chauthaiwale.
“The Washington Post editorial policy is highly biased and agenda-driven.”
This trash of a newspaper Washington Post is owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who is on a current visit to India and has been trying to act like a Good Guy. This is not going to fool the Indians. An Indian cabinet minister has already given short shrift to Amazon’s plans to create a million jobs in the country by 2025.
Bezos has praised India during his ongoing visit, saying the 21st century will be the Indian century and that the dynamism and energy in the country was “something special”.
The Washington Post’s India bureau chief, Joanna Slater, referred a Reuters request for comment to the newspaper’s spokespersons in Washington, who did not immediately respond outside regular business hours.
Amazon too did not respond to an email seeking comment on Chauthaiwale’s remarks.
Now Indians have become more aware and critical of foreign media’s biased reporting on political issues, including on the Kashmir issue which is totally an internal matter of India. Such biased reporting will not be tolerated any more. Indians too are ready to reciprocate in befitting manner as deemed fit.
The Washington Post has in the past been attacked by Saudi Arabia for its coverage in the wake of the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi that caused a global outcry. Where as the dastardly killing of an Iranian General on orders of the American President has not been talked about in similar manner.
Many multinationals have been acting very smart and trying their kevel best in taking the Indian government for a rude just like the East India Company of the past. So now Indian Government is increasingly.
scrutinizing all e-commerce firms in light of concerns raised by India’s own retailers. This will certainly stop the free run availed by such companies like the Amazon till now.
E Commerce Companies like Amazon have hit our small businesses. Amazon and Walmart’s Flipkart flout regulations and burn billions of dollars to offer steep discounts. Though the companies deny the allegations and say they comply with all laws, henceforth there will be deep scrutiny.
India’s shopkeepers not only represent a core constituency for the ruling party but also form a strong social network in small towns and cities. Thus the Government of India which has otherwise been open to foreign investors, was unlikely to let Bezos meet with important officials during his visit despite repeated requests by the company in light of traders’ concerns and the continuing antitrust probe. He will certainly not get an audience with the Indian Prime Minister.
India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, a veteran BJP leader, has rightly said that Amazon had done no big favour to India by announcing a new $1bn investment to help small businesses, raising questions on its business practices.
He added that a recently announced India antitrust investigation of Amazon and Flipkart to look at the allegations of deep discounting and whether the firms discriminate against small sellers were “an area of concern for every Indian”.
So we Indians too can play tit for tat. Bezos, if he wants to do business in India then he better control his Washington Post. And No please don’t raise lectures on Free press etc we know how you cover things not favorable to USA.
