A day after an international science channel revealed that Ram Setu, an ancient bridge between India and Sri Lanka, was possibly man-made and not a natural formation as supposed before, a big political fight has erupted, with BJP questioning the Congress’ stand on the issue because of this Rahul Gandhi’s “Shiv Bhakti” EXPOSED.
The revelation indicates that there might be some truth in the Hindu mythological legend of Ramayana, which first mentioned that the bridge was constructed under the aegis of Lord Rama in order to rescue his wife Sita from Lanka.
The latest disclosure by the Science Channel has put the Congress party in the dock as the UPA-1 government in 2007 had dismissed the same in the apex court in 2007.
In a sensational disclosure, a UPA insider has now revealed the real reason behind the Congress’ denial of the Ram Setu bridge as a historical fact.
Speaking exclusively to Times Now, Mohan Parasaran, former Solicitor General of the UPA government has said that the then government chose to go by the recommendations of the then Shipping Minister who belonged to DMK regarding the case. He added that DMK as a party never believed in Ram Setu, and hence the Congress took the stand accordingly.
He said, “There were conflicting reports, and the UPA govt went by some report which was recommended by bureaucrats. Some people say, possibly the then Shipping Minister belonged to the DMK, and they never believed in Ram Setu. That was one of the reasons. And Congress I don’t think took any particular stand on this issue. They were actually prepared to go and consider this issue on a realistic basis.”
The matter relates to the case filed by the BJP against the UPA government’s proposed 2005 Sethusamudram project that would have possibly destroyed a part of Ram Setu, also called the Adam’s Bridge.
The Supreme Court, which is hearing the case, was informed by the then UPA government that there was no historical proof that Lord Rama had existed and that there was no archaeological evidence to prove Ram Setu is man-made.
Meanwhile, constituents of the UPA continue to remain brazen, trying to to justify their opposition to the Ram Setu.
Speaking on this, DMK leader TKS Elangovan, said, “The first statement that it was not a man made bridge was made by the ASI and not the DMK. DMK had never made a study on the structure but it was the statement by ASI which was submitted to the court. Between 1999 and 2004, the Sethu project was conceived.”
On the other hand, the Congress has now down a volte-face, claiming that it was never against the Ram Setu.
“We always believed in the Ram Setu. We don’t disagree with the existence of Lord Rama and Ram Setu. The only thing was whether the passage should be provided through the Setu or not but our government did not allow the bridge to be broken and the Ram Setu is still intact,” Congress leader Rajiv Shukla told Times Now.
