ON THE ICY HEIGHTS OF KARGIL : Till he was no more

By
Colonel Kanwar Badam, veteran

This poem is dedicated to Late Capt Vikram Batra, PVC. His Commanding Offr on Star TV network had mentioned that his success signal on occupation of Tiger Hill was ‘Yeh Dil Mange More’ which symbolised his quest for avenging the honour of his motherland by reoccupying lost land and giving more opportunity to a larger number of Pakistanis to give up their life for their uncaring Government during Kargil operations.

The hero of Tiger Hill
Fought the battle of Will
Drenched in blood
Craving to re-claim lost land
He shouted ‘ Yeh Dil Mange More’

Leading from front
Bearing the brunt
He strode to wrench
Enemy covertly entrenched

Climbing in stealth
Under a volley of fire
He rode the peaks
Spiked in patriotic zeal

Men followed in range
Pakis were dazed
Most were razed
Rest were chased

Valour uncased
Fighting spirit ablaze
Enemy was slain
Capt Batra was stained
Yet his quest for enemy remained
He shouted ‘Yeh Dil Mange More’
Till he was no more
