ISRO Chairman K Sivan gets one-year extension

The appointments committee of the Union cabinet on Wednesday approved giving an extension of one year to Isro chairman K Sivan, who was due superannuation on January 14, 2021.

Sivan will now continue as Isro chairman and secretary, department of space up to January 14, 2022.

His appointment to the current position was cleared on January 10, 2018 and he took charge from AK Kiran Kumar on January 14 that year.

Other than Sivan, two other senior scientists, S Somnath, director, VSSC and Kunhikrishnan, director, URSAC are at the apex level.

Both of them, along with another senior scientist, have been recommended for the post of chairman, IN-SPACe, the newly formed space regulator, as reported by News Agency earlier.

The department of space, under which IN-SPACe will function, is awaiting a decision from the Centre and PMO on the appointment of its chairman.
