Ambani security scare : Mumbai Police commissioner shunted

The Maharashtra government on Wednesday transferred Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh amid controversy over an explosives-laden SUV found near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s residence and the subsequent arrest of city police officer Sachin Waze.

Singh has been transferred to the Home Guards and Civil Defence as Director general and would be replaced by Hemant Nagrale, an IPS officer of 1987 batch.

Nagrale also had additional charge of Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP).

The announcement was made by state home minister Anil Deshmukh, who had met chief minister Uddhav Thackeray earlier in the day.

Deshmukh tweeted that Rajnish Seth, an IPS officer of 1988 batch, will replace Nagrale.

Seth, who is currently state anti-corruption bureau DG, will hold the additional charge of Maharashtra DGP.

The Mumbai Police have been facing flak since police officer Sachin Waze was arrested by the National Investigating Agency

(NIA) for his alleged role in planting and parking the explosive-laden vehicle near Ambani’s residence.

Waze was attached to the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) of city police’s crime branch till recently.
