US unable to interfere in  Africa’s dialogue with Russia

Andrey Maslov stressed that the African countries were interested to see the structure of the world economy and politics move away from the monopolar system

The United States does not have sufficient resources and tools to force African countries to abandon their dialogue with Russia, said the director of the HSE Center for African Studies, Andrey Maslov.

He acknowledged that Washington might step up pressure on the African countries in a bid to prevent their contacts with Russia and its representatives.

“It is important that the Africans will certainly be defending their independence – the independence of decision-making. The Americans do not have sufficient resources or tools to make Africans give up relations with Russia,” Maslov said.

The expert drew attention to the fact that Africa itself was interested in developing relations with Russia.

“We supply grain, fertilizers, and goods critical for their development,” he added.

Maslov stressed that the African countries were interested to see the structure of the world economy and politics move away from the monopolar system. The African countries are already “doing what they find beneficial.”

“And they find beneficial a situation where relations with everybody develop dynamically and without any discrimination,” Maslov noted. “The Americans are pushing ahead with their own agenda, but rather unsuccessfully.”

The expert drew attention to the fact that US pressure on Africa was proceeding at the personal level: “It’s pressure on specific decision-makers.”

However, Maslov pointed out that “public administration systems in Africa have a sufficient level of immunity to withstand personalized pressure from the US.”.
