61 people trapped in a Chinese coal mine, 8 killed
A news agency Xinhua reported that an incident of gas blast in a coal mine occurred in the city of Pingdingshan at around 2 p.m. Beijing time (1130 a.m. IST ). According to preliminary data, it was caused by a coal and gas outburst in the outer section of an intake airway.
Local authorities have launched a rescue operation. The details of the incident are being clarified, and an investigation is underway.
At least 8 people have been killed, 15 people are missing and 61 are trapped following an accident at a coal mine in the city of Pingdingshan in central China’s Henan Province.
Rescuers have established contact with the remaining 22 individuals.
