Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a visit to Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi, on Friday said he was shocked at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks about the youth of Varanasi. PM Modi said the prince of the Congress family said UP’s youth are ‘nashedi’.
In a sharp attack on the Congress leader, who was once fielded against Modi in 2014, Modi said “those who are not in ‘hosh’ themselves are calling the youth ‘nasheri.’
“In last 10 years, they spent their time abusing Modi. But now they are talking out their frustration on the people. Jinke aapne hosh thhikane nahi hai, wo UP ke, mere kashi ke bachcho ko nashedi keh rahe hai (those who are not in their senses are calling UP’s youth addicts)” PM Modi said strongly condemning Rahul Gandhi’s statement.
Gandhi, who is currently carrying out his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ had ry said that in Varanasi he observed some youths inebriated, lying on the streets, and dancing at night. “The future of the youth of Uttar Pradesh is intoxicated,” Rahul added.

Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating and laying the foundation of development projects worth Rs 13,000 crore in his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi, Modi said Uttar Pradesh had been left behind in development for decades due to the politics of “parivarvaad”, corruption and appeasement.
Noting that in the 10 years as the MP, Varanasi has made him a ‘Banarasi’, Modi said he was committed to improving the lives of the people of Kashi.
Modi also inaugurated and laid the foundation of several projects worth more than Rs 13,000 crore in his parliamentary constituency.
Earlier in the day, the prime minister inaugurated a statue of Sant Ravidas and participated in his 647th birth anniversary celebrations. He also interacted with the winners of the Sansad Sanskrit Pratiyogita at the Banaras Hindu University.
