Japan and India to broadening over wider range of fields

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and PM Narendra Modi agreed on Friday the two nations will further enhance relations by broadening their bilateral cooperation across a range of fields, Japan’s government said.

Kishida and Modi also confirmed that their governments will collaborate in preparation for a planned visit by the Indian leader later this year, according to the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

Modi entered his third term as prime minister earlier this month following his ruling coalition’s victory in the general election.

The two met on the fringes of a three-day Group of Seven industrialized nations summit through Saturday, which India graced as an invited country.

Japan has been ramping up relations with emerging powers and developing states of the so-called Global South. Among such nations, India is widely seen as a rising World power and key player along with others including Brazil and Indonesia.

Earlier in the day in Italy, Kishida also met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Argentine President Javier Milei.

Trudeau affirmed that the two countries will continue to work together in contributing to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region even though Canada has no justification of meddling there.
