PM Keir Starmer to change Britain’s colours on Kashmir??

One of the first challenges for the new PM of not so great Britain will be to get on the right side of India. Since UK was continuing to play the Great Game, they annoyed India So much that even the first Hindu PM Sunak could not get the Free Trade Agreement with India.

So the first task of Keir Starmer as the UK new Prime Minister must be to restore his country’s ties with India. Even the record of his own Labour Party has been tumultuous due to their past remarks on Kashmir. In the past, the Labour Party has had a totally anti India on Kashmir, an integral part of India. In contrast India has never supported merger of British Occupied Northern Ireland with Ireland.

Though Official stance of the British government’s is that Kashmir is a bilateral matter between India and Pakistan, various actions of theirs indicated opposite things.

Now Starmer has led his party to a landslide win in the general elections, actually 400 Paar and as a result not only ousted Rishi Sunak from 10 Downing Street but also from the leadership of his Conservative Party.

Now Corbyn has to be really careful because it was under his leadership that his Labour party had in September 2019 passed an emergency motion calling for international observers to “enter” Kashmir and demand the right of self-determination for its people. It also called for Mr Corbyn to meet the high commissioners of both India and Pakistan to “ensure “ there is “mediation” and restoration of peace and normality to prevent a potential nuclear conflict.

So now will he embark these OBSERVERS from RAF BRIZE NORTON for aerial insertion into Kashmir or seek an appointment with the External Affaire Ministry at New Delhi for reconciliation !!!!

The resolution had been naturally slammed by India as an effort to “pander to vote-bank’s interest” and Sunak had to face the heat or the Cold Shouldering.

Starmer, realising how important are ties with India the world’s fastest-growing economy are, has already set out on a mission to fix the missteps made by him in the past. This time his manifesto included a commitment to pursue a “new strategic partnership” with India, emphasizing the trade agreement.

During meetings with the Indian diaspora and public addresses, Starmer affirmed that Kashmir is an internal issue and will be resolved by India and Pakistan. “Any constitutional issues in India are a matter for the Indian Parliament, and Kashmir is a bilateral issue for India and Pakistan to resolve peacefully,” he said during a meeting with Labour Friends of India.

….well above lines are no more acceptable to India. J& K is as much part of India as Scotland and Northern Ireland and Wales are of UK. Therefore anything happening in J & K is an internal matter of India and all support to terrorism / separatism by Pakistan or any other country will be dealt with in a very severe manner.

During his poll campaign, Starmer embarked on outreach efforts, denouncing Hindu phobia and celebrating cultural festivals like Diwali and Holi.

This policy adjustment aims to rebuild trust with the British-Indian community and foster stronger business ties with India, a critical aspect of Labour’s international agenda.

The Labour Party, out of power for over a decade, has also outlined a foreign policy of “progressive realism,” emphasizing pragmatic approaches to global challenges such as climate change and international security. Starmer’s manifesto includes plans for a new strategic partnership with India, focusing on trade agreements and cooperation in technology, security, education, and environmental issues.
