Modi’s visit to Russia demonstrates India’s strategic independence

Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled to Russia first thing after re-election because India decided that this visit was necessary and very important to ensure stability in World politics. After all it is India which is now the balancing Pole in this multipolar World.

So regardless of what USA, NATO, China, Japan and Western Europe the felt about it, the first visit of third term of PM Modi had to be to Moscow.

That visit took place because India decided that good relations between Russia and India are important not only for India and Russia but also a balancing factor in geopolitics of the rest. Indian political, financial and business elites are fully aware of the global situation. However, despite increased tensions between Moscow and the West, India is not bothered what others think of this visit. What matters that what India thinks.

The visit showed that the relationship between India and Russia is stable and will continue to progress.

Also India is not bothered by Moscow’s close ties with Beijing, it is their bilateral matter. Similarly Russia is not bothered by Indo USA ties. As far as China is concerned, India is fully capable of handling China both militarily and economically on its own.

Coming to Ukraine, India has remained objective on Ukraine and Modi discussed the issue too with Putin. India position is not based on any recommendations from the United States or China. Since the initial stages of this conflict, New Delhi has pushed for resolving the issue bilateral by means of diplomatic and political dialogue. And Modi made this position clear once again during his visit to Moscow.
