Cooperation with BRICS opens up new economic possibilities for members of the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN), Malaysian Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz said addressing the lower house of the parliament.
“If we take a look at cooperation with BRICS countries in the area of e-commerce we will see that financial technologies and digital innovations may open new ways for strengthening of trade initiatives within our efforts with other ASEAN and BRICS states,” he was quoted as saying by the Bernama information agency.
Malaysia as a country chairing ASEAN in 2025 will be able to facilitate establishment of cooperation with partners, including with BRICS member states, the minister noted.
“The chain of value creation in Malaysia and ASEAN may be improved through cooperation with BRICS countries,” he added.
Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand have been made BRICS partners. Later on through a laid down procedure they may apply or full membership.
