On December 14, the Georgian parliament held presidential elections. It was the first indirect election of the head of state.
Kavelashvili, nominated by the ruling Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia party, was the only candidate; he won 224 votes of the electors out of 300 and became the country’s sixth president.
Former Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili has finally left the presidential palace.
The demonstrators who were her supporters, had gathered in front of the presidential palace since the morning, greeted Zourabichvili with cheers.
Earlier, she held a briefing where she said she would not stay in the presidential palace
After speaking with the demonstrators, Zourabichvili got into a car accompanied by security guards and left the area.
