Afraid Of Accountability Unions plan indefinite strike Against Reorganization Ordnance Factories
Bharat Electronics Ltd, Bharat Dynamics Ltd, BRAHMOS Aerospace Ltd and similar other defence Navratanas are performing in a fantastic manner to meet India’s defence requirements. They are increasing their exports to other countries day by day and also improving their listing on the share market.
However the Trade Union leaders of the 41 Ordinance Factories say that conversion of the OFB into a Public Sector Undertakings and listing the same in the share market will be only the beginning for its liquidation which is not in the interest of the defence preparedness and the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abiyan mission.
Afraid Of Facing Accountability At All Levels the three major federations of workers in 41 Ordnance Factories across the country have started preparing for an indefinite strike against the proposed corporatisation of the Ordnance Factories Board.
The federations, including the Left-leaning All India Defence Employees Federation, the INTUC-affiliate Indian National Defence Workers Federation and the BMS-led Bharatiya Pratiraksha Mazdoor Sangh, will hold strike ballots in all the factories and other establishments under OFB between June 8 and June 17 to assess the response of 82,000 defence workers. The federations will issue an indefinite strike notice to the Department of Defence Production after the strike ballot.
The organisations has to be told in clear terms that their sloth will not be tolerated anymore. Presently the Armed Forces are gearing up for challenges on both the Chinese and Pakistani Fronts and therefore the Ordinance Factories have no choice but to perform and deliver.
Since August last year that a High Level Official Committee has studied all the aspects of re organization of these PSUs and this needs to be carried out.
This action of reorganization is not an arbitrary decision of tge Government but well thought out.
The Workers have a right to protest. However this should be done only if they are being thrown out of their job, which is not the case. Neither they are being deprived of their job nor is there any reduction in their pay package.
What us being introduced is Accountability at all levels, which is the norm for the Armed Forces. And these Factories are there to support the Armed Forces.
