7 dead, 40 injured, as bus rams into truck on Agra-Lucknow expressway.
The mangled Varanasi-Delhi bus that rammed a truck in Mainpuri
In yet another accident on Agra-Lucknow expressway, seven people were killed when a private bus ferrying passengers rammed into the rear of a truck loaded with tiles near Kanjhara village at milestone 87 of Karhal police jurisdiction of Mainpuri district on Saturday night. Around 40 people, including two Spanish tourists, sustained injuries.
According to police, the speeding bus was heading towards Varanasi from national capital, when it rammed into the rear of a truck at around 10:45 pm. All the victims were immediately rushed to Saifai medical college, where they are undergoing treatment.
Circle officer Rakesh Kumar Pandey of Karhal told News Agency, “It seems that the unidentified bus driver fell asleep on the steering wheel and lost control over the vehicle.
The impact of the accident was so fierce, that a quarter of the bus turned into a scrap metal. Our dial 100 team which was one km away from the accident site was the first to respond.”
Pandey further said, “The constables broke open the windowpane of the AC bus with rifle butt in order to release the smoke and rescue the suffocating passengers. Later, more police personnel arrived and retrieved the bodies from the mangled remained of the bus.”
Names of deceased were released by district administration of Mainpuri. As per the list, the dead were identified as Shahshank Yadav (28) from Rae Bareli, Shashir Shukla (36) from Lucknow, his daughter Vidushi Shukla (7), Tinku Singh Chauhan (22) from Kanpur Dehat, his cousin Shivam Singh Chauhan (21), Mohan Lal Gupta (57) from Varanasi and Ashish Singh, 22, also a resident of Varanasi.
