As A Next Step Of Social Decoupling Now Curbs Placed On Visas To Chinese Nationals
India is now very clear that unless the Indo Tibetan Boundary issue is fully resolved to the satisfaction of all stake holders, the process of economic and social decoupling from China will continue till the two countries are totally decoupled. No matter what the cost, India will have no trade and social relationship with a country which has attacked and killed our soldiers.
So India is now stepping up curbs on the activities of Chinese businesspeople and academics in the country and adding extra scrutiny over visas, Chinese observers have rightly observed this and now are conveying the message to the Chinese Communist Party and the PLA that the move, is totally true and is the direct result from the anti-China sentiment following the Galwan attack by PLA.
The actions may not bring about any actual impact at the moment since international visitors are restricted due to spread if Wuhan Virus. However in the long run, this policy will definitely dampen Social and economic exchanges between the two countries, leading to faster decoupling as envisaged by India.
In a report on Saturday, Bloomberg cited an anonymous official from India’s Ministry of External Affairs as saying that visas for Chinese business people, academics, industry experts and advocacy groups will need prior security clearance. The report added that the measures are similar to those that have long been employed with Pakistan.
Though it seems that Chinese are still hopeful that India may relent. An employee of the representative office of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade in India said that they have not heard any information about Chinese people having to undergo safety clearances because visa applications to India have been suspended due to the epidemic and are yet to resume.
Visa applications from China to India have been suspended since February due to the epidemic, according to the Chinese Embassy in India.
Chinese experts and Chinese nationals in India who were reached by the Global Times on Sunday said that if India is really tightening up visas, it is likely an extension of the anti-China sentiment in the wake of the border clashes with China.
Yes Global Times should not remain in any doubt. PLA has attacked and killed the soldiers of the Indian Army and has also tried to intrude across the LAC at several places though chased away.
Also all the time the Chinese Government keeps supporting Pakistan over Jammu & Kashmir which is an integral part if India. China also supports Pakistan in its effort to promote terrorism and separatism in Kashmir.
All these are now no more acceptable to India and we are now ready to reciprocate both in feeling and action.
Slapping new curbs on visas for Chinese people is a right step in enforcing social and economic decoupling between the two countries.
India has recently blocked dozens of popular Chinese mobile apps including TikTok after the the Galwan Valley attack by PLA on June 15.
India’s new investment regulation, unveiled in April, is also directly against investors from China.
Chinese are still taking things lightly because as per one of their expert “Both the epidemic and anti-China sentiments in India are discouraging Chinese from visiting India.
Exchanges between China and India will not return to the pre-epidemic status quo at least for a year. It may take at least that long for before bilateral exchanges can resume.”
