Balochis Independence Day celebrated on 11 Aug
Balochistan had gained its independence from the British on 11 Aug 1947 itself. Historically Kalat was the capital of Balochistan State ( Balochistan was also called Kalat State ). whereas Jhalawan, Makoran, Kharan, and Lasbela were provinces of Kalat state. These provinces were under the direct control of the Kalat state and governors were appointed by Kalat the central government and the Wali’s were also members of the upper chamber (Aiwan e Bala) of Kalat state. They all had already taken the oath from the assembly for the safety and sovereignty of Balochistan.
Jinnah had tried all the tricks in the book in collusion with the British to get the Khan of Kalat to merge with Pakistan but he refused. Next Jinnah fraudulently connived with the Jam of Lasbela Jam Ghulam Qadir, Wali of Makuran Nawab Bhai Khan and Nawab Noshirwani of Kharan, he succeeded in convincing them of his political machinations. These Governors (Walis) of states met with Mohammad Ali Jinnah and unconstitutional agreed to merge their states with Pakistan even though these provinces had no legal or constitutional rights to do so.
Finally on the orders of General Douglas Gracie, the COAS of Pakistan, the Pakistani army raided the coastal areas of Balochistan towards Panjgur and finally captured entire Kalat on March 27.
Thus on March 27, 1948, the newborn Pakistani state attacked and forcefully Occupied the sovereign Baloch state on gunpoint. since the occupation of Balochistan in 1948 Baloch people have been observing March 27 as a black day.
From the very day of forcible occupation, the Baloch resistance movement has started and it was led by Agha Abdul Karim Khan, who was then the governor of Makoran state and younger brother of Khan of Kalat (Balochistan) Mir Ahmed Yar Khan.
March 27 has been observed as a black day by the Baloch nation. They protest, hoist black flags on their houses and wear black, hand bands to express the hatred against the occupation.
Pro Freedom political parties stage a protest and arrange awareness campaigns and seminars in Balochistan and worldwide to highlight atrocities by Paki Occupation Forces in Balochistan.
Baloch have been fighting against slavery and for the sovereignty of their homeland Balochistan since the first day of Occupation, Baloch have fought five wars against Pakistan to regain the sovereign state of Balochistan but each time Pakistan brutally suppressed those Liberation movements with the help of China, neighbouring countries and used the US-supplied weapons and jets against Baloch insurgents.
The new ongoing fight ; which was started two decades ago said to be the most powerful and ideological Baloch movement.
Thousands of Balochs have been killed and thousands are forcibly abducted in Pakistani military aggressions since 1948. Houses are being burned, livestock and other assets are being looted on a daily basis in military operations.
Balochs have never accepted Pakistani slavery and they have been struggling for their self-determination, however, there have been ups and downs in the Baloch national liberation struggle.
The Baloch National Movement (BNM), a Baloch rights organisation, celebrated the Baloch Independence Day on 11 Aug the Sunday. BNM spokesperson in a post on X mentioned, “August 11 is a day to renew our commitment.”
He urged everyone to reaffirm their pledge to restore Balochistan’s independence and vowed, “I swear by the blood of Baloch martyrs that I will persist in the struggle for Baloch independence and will not take any actions that could undermine the independence movement or harm Baloch national interests.”
He also added that the Baloch nation is deprived of its freedom due to British conspiracy. Britain allowed Pakistan to occupy Balochistan and did not act to safeguard the fundamental rights of its people.
Further, he criticised the Commonwealth of Nations as a failed concept, claiming that this institution, established under British patronage, is distant from its core objectives of democracy, peace, and human rights protection.
He urged Britain to remove Pakistan from Commonwealth Country Status for deviating from its objectives and also requested Britain to correct its historical mistakes and support the Baloch Independence movement.
He further affirmed that the Baloch nation has been denied all basic rights, including freedom by Pakistani Occupation Forces. Pakistan has obstructed the peaceful struggle of the Baloch nation by killing its political leaders and nationalist activists. The Baloch nation will never forgive the bloodshed of the thousands of martyrs in their fight for freedom. The ultimate reward for their sacrifice is complete national independence from Pakistan.
The spokesperson also highlighted that August 11 serves as a reminder of this crucial need for freedom to ensure our survival.
He also draws attention towards Pakistan which is destroying their language, culture, literature and values. The national liberation movement is essential for safeguarding “our existence.”
He also urged national political activists to reflect on their roles and renew their commitment. He emphasized the need to increase public participation in the national freedom struggle by spreading the message of national freedom to every Baloch and securing their full support.
