US President Joe Biden is ‘healthy’ and ‘vigorous,’ and is fit for performing his presidential duties, the president’s physician said in a report released by the White House.
“President Biden remains a healthy, vigorous, 79-year-old male, who is fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency, to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief,” the document says.
The report, compiled by Biden’s longtime physician Kevin O’Connor, says that the US president should undergo additional medical examination due to “increased frequency and severity of ‘throat clearing’ and coughing during speaking engagements.”
“He has exhibited such symptoms for as long as I have known him, but they certainly seem to be more frequent and more pronounced over the last few months,” he said. “The symptom is clearly present, and warranted detailed investigation.”
The document also says that Biden’s “ambulatory gait is perceptibly stiffer and less fluid than it was a year or so ago” and in this case “a detailed investigation was appropriate.”
The doctor also said that Biden underwent a screening colonoscopy procedure on Friday, during which a polyp was removed.
“The polyp was removed without difficulty. Histologic evaluation is anticipated to be completed early next week. The president has never had colon cancer,” the document says.
The US leader underwent a regularly health screening at the Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. After the procedure, Biden said he was feeling well. He turns 79 on Saturday.
Earlier on Friday, Biden notified leaders of the US Congress that, in accordance with the Constitution, he would temporarily transfer his his power to Vice President Kamala Harris while he will remain under anesthesia in a hospital during planned medical procedures.
