As per Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tanka, a policeman tried to fire his rifle at senior Congress leader Kamal Nath at the Chhindwara airstrip in Madhya Pradesh. The policeman was overpowered by the security personnel present at the airstrip and has now been placed under suspension.
Rajya Sabha MP and advocate Vivek Tankha posted two tweets informing about the incidence.
Kamal Nath represents Chhindwara in Loksabha and is presently the longest serving member of the Indian Parliament. He has been elected nine times from Chhindwara.
He has won every election since 1980 with the sole exception of elections to 11th Loksabha in 1996.
Kamal Nath ( born 18 November 1946) is an Indian politician and the Ex Minister of Urban Development. He was appointed as the pro tem Speaker of the current 16th Lok Sabha of India and is the longest serving member of Indian Parliament. He represents the Chhindwara constituency of Madhya Pradesh and was elected 9 times from the conistituency. He is a leader of the Indian National Congress.
Launching a scathing attack on chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for failing to curb crimes against women, Congress said he should feel ‘ashamed’ that MP was once again on the top in terms of rape cases in the country as per the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report of 2016 released on Thursday.
Congress said the chief minister along with his party is busy celebrating completion of 12 years in office.
Senior Congress leader and Chhindwara MP Kamal Nath tweeted, “Madhya Pradesh shamed again!” Referring to women and minor girls as “sisters and nieces of Mama” (as Chouhan calls himself the brother of all women in the state and maternal uncle of all girls), Nath said they were not vulnerable to attacks anywhere else as in Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s regime in MP. “Once again MP is on top in rape cases. This is the truth of Shivraj rule, which indulges in fake celebration”, Nath said.
Congress leader and Guna MP Jyotiraditya Scindia in his tweet said “Ground reality of women’s security in MP is extremely shameful. 4,882 rape cases in 2016. Madhya Pradesh is once again on the top in cases of rape.”
State Congress chief Arun Yadav said that the NCRB has one again exposed the vast gap in chief minister’s words and deeds. He said the state continues to be on top in cases of rape and such incidents have increased.
“The state is also on top in terms of crimes against tribals and crime data released by the NCRB suggests that Madhya Pradesh was heading towards jungle raj with the law and order situation on the brink of collapse,” Yadav said.
Meanwhile, leader of Opposition Ajay Singh accused the Chouhan government of shying away from debate on crimes against women in the assembly and said that the NCRB report for the year 2016 was a telling comment on how the state government has left women and weaker sections of the society to fend for themselves.
“Rape cases are still on the rise despite the fact that the state has the dubious distinction of being on top in this respect for the past several years. The state is also on top as far as crimes against Scheduled Tribes are concerned,” Singh said.
Singh further said that it is an irony that a government which has brought the state to this miserable state was celebrating Chouhan’s 12 years of ‘sushashan’ (excellent rule).
