Former cricketer, politician and television personality Navjot Singh Sidhu sparked outrage for his comment on the Pulwama terror attack.
Sidhu, 55, had said that a nation could not be held responsible for the acts of terrorists and that terrorism had no religion.
It was seen to be supporting Pakistan and its Prime Minister Imran Khan, Sidhu’s longtime friend.
Soon after Sidhu’s remark, the social media users in India demanded his removal from The Kapil Sharma Show. Under immense pressure, Sony TV, the channel that telecasts the comedy show, reportedly sacked Sidhu and roped in Archana Puran Singh to fill his post.
Kapil Sharma, the show’s host, finally spoke up on the matter on Monday at an event in Chandigarh. The comedian cited “prior commitments” as the reason for Sidhu’s absense from the show.
He told zeenews.com, “Navjot Singh Sidhu is busy with his prior commitments due to which Archana Puran Singh is shooting with us.”
Reacting to the controversy surrounding Sidhu and his alleged sacking from The Kapil Sharma Show, Kapil said, “These are very small things, or can also be a part of propaganda. I feel banning someone or sacking Navjot Singh Sidhu from the show is not the solution. We need to look for a permanent solution.”
On the Pulwama terror attack, Mr Sharma said, “We are with the government but still, we need a permanent solution.
The cowardly act in Pulwama that killed our soldiers shouldn’t be forgotten and the culprits should be punished.”
The attack, that took place on Thursday, resulted in the killing of more than 40 CRPF jawans. It was perpetrated by Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-E-Mohammed.
