Cease fire on LOC will not provide any early statehood to J&K but surely delay merging of Gilgit Baltistan with Ladakh
Pakistan needs To Be admired for its courage of conviction. This failing state has conveyed to India that the February 25 renewal of the 2003 ceasefire along the Line of Control can lead to a wider engagement only if and when Delhi restores statehood to Jammu & Kashmir as a “starting point” for a discussion on the resolution of the Kashmir issue.
The joint statement issued by the Directors General of Military Operations does not reflect any change in the Pakistani position that Kashmir is a “dispute” and that its resolution is anchored by the United Nations Security Council resolutions, said authoritative sources in Pakistan who did not wish to be identified.
Moreover, they added, the statement in no way implies the acceptance of the Indian “narrative” of a “deal” on Kashmir.
This a clear indication of how Pakistan views relations with India even after the ceasefire, and the gap in positions between the two sides. Knowing fully well that now not even the USA is in no position to dictate to India and seeing that China has already realized its mistake, Pakistan is bent upon maintaining its trajectory of final destruction. In case Pakistan keeps harping that India must create an “enabling environment” by restoring statehood to J&K, then India will have no option but to get back rest of POK and Pak Occupied Ladhak.Next step after that will be the derecognition of Radcliffe Line itself.
Yes, India will always be ready to facilitate “a conversation” that would include bilateral trade and commerce, development activities as per SAARC agenda and wider cooperation for prosperity of Indian Ocean Region.
No matter what Pakistan thinks and says but the DGMO agreement was a sign of Pakistan’s desperation and weakness as now not even Uncle Sam or Xi Dada will come to its aid over kashmir. India has signalled to the world that Kashmir that is done and dusted.
Delhi has also signalled that if the ceasefire holds and no terrorist incidents occur that could be traced back to Pakistan, wider normalisation of ties could follow.
Restoration of J&K statehood is an assurance underlined several times in the Lok Sabha by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and there is little to discuss beyond that being totally an internal matter of the Indian Union.
The entire Pakistan system – the Army chief,The Prime Minister, the Foreign ministry, the Special Representative on National Security – was on board the idea that the agreement opened up spaces for wider engagement and Peace. Pakistan was willing to engage, because it views peace with India as a pre-requisite for its own economic stability now at the core of its idea of national security.
