Chagos Islands : British MPs Must Ask Their Govt To Get Out Fastest, India Is Watching

More than a year has passed since the United Nations’ highest court has delivered a opinion on the legality of British sovereignty over the Chagos Islands.

The UN’s highest court had asked the UK to end its control of the Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean. The Court had Said that the move should happen “as rapidly as possible.”

The court ruled that Britain carved up Mauritius illegally when it agreed to end colonial rule and must “bring to an end its administration of the Chagos Archipelago”. The opinion issued by the International Court of Justice is non-binding, but carries weight since it came from the top UN court and could put significant pressure on London to act.

United States still has a military base on Diego Garcia, the court said that in its opinion “all member states are under an obligation to co-operate with the United Nations in order to complete the decolonisation of Mauritius”.

All those British Members of Parliament who many a times ask their Government to poke its nose into Indian affairs like Citizenship bill, removal of Article 370 in Kashmir and recently the Farmers agitation, must now ask their Govt to vacate Chagos fastest.

India is on the side of the Mauritius and would extend all required help to fight this colonial land grab. Britain had shown wisdom when it had vacated the Indian subcontinent (though could not help itself and played the GREAT GAME in Gilgit Baltistan) in 1947.

Otherwise sooner or later they would have been definitely thrown out after bloody fight that would have seen the end of any British possession in entire Indian Ocean. Also there would have been no such thing as a Commonwealth.
