Construction of Second Nuclear Reactor at Egyptian NPP Commences
The construction of the first reactor began on 20 July
Russia’s Rosatom started building a second reactor at the El Dabaa nuclear power plant in Egypt on Saturday.
Construction of the first reactor had started on July 20.
Egypt, with a population of more than 100 million people, needs nuclear power due to a lack of natural gas and oil.
Rosatom is constructing the plant under a $30 billion agreement signed in 2015, which stipulates the plant will have four reactors. Russia will provide a $25 billion loan for Egypt to fund the project. Egypt is expected to repay the loan after the plant starts to operate.
