The Dighi Hills came alive with an extraordinary display of courage and skill as over 100 paratroopers from the elite 411 (Independent) Para Field Company, including several senior veterans, performed a magnificent paradrop display. The paradrop showcased both serving and veteran personnel of The Bombay Sappers, demonstrating a seamless blend of history and contemporary prowess. Leading the veterans was the 75-year-old former Engineer-in-Chief, Lt Gen RR Goswami, along with other notable figures such as Brig SR Mazgaonkar (74 yrs), Brig RG Divekar (66 yrs), and the former Central Army Commander, Lt Gen Yogendra Dimri (61 yrs). Their participation was a powerful testament to the enduring spirit and resolve of The Bombay Sappers.

The event also featured a captivating display by Paramotor pilots who recently completed the East-West Kutch to Kibithu Paramotor expedition, paying tribute to the War Memorial’s Centenary. Their low-level flying and acrobatics captivated the audience, adding to the festive atmosphere at Dighi Hills, a training area for the Bombay Sappers.

The audience, comprising school and college students, serving and veteran officers, JCOs, Other Ranks, and their families, were also treated to traditional Gatka and Malkhamb displays. The BEG instructors presented an exhilarating Physical Training display, showcasing agility and grace that drew applause and admiration.

He referred to the War Memorial as a Shraddha Sthaan, symbolizing sacrifice, valour, and selfless service. He noted that the Memorial, also the logo of The Bombay Sappers, was erected in February 1923 and has been recently expanded to honor the gallant bravehearts of Bombay Sappers who have sacrificed for the nation.

The paradrop and accompanying events not only commemorated the centenary of the War Memorial but also reinforced the message that the safety and security of the nation are in capable hands. The hills and the nearby pristine Gurnam Lake bore witness to a day of joy and celebration, honoring the real-life heroes who give up their today for our tomorrow.
