For A Successful SCO Summit Islamabad Must Be Coerced To Eradicate Terrorism From Its Soil
For proper institutional building of the SCO, not only matters involving economic cooperation but also security cooperation particularly counter-terrorism needs to be emphasized as per China’s Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Hanhui.
“Security and development are two major issues of focus for the SCO. The establishment of the SCO is not to target any certain country but the summit of this level will certainly pay attention to major international relation and regional issues,” Zhang said in an indirect reference to Pakistan while replying to a question if multilateralism would be the at the fulcrum of the discussion at the event.
Zhang said this while addressing a press conference ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping attending the 19th SCO summit in Kyrgyzstan’s Bishkek and the fifth version of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Dushanbe, the capital city of Tajikistan.
Modi will meet Xi on the sidelines of the summit where he will not meet Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, citing Islamabad funding anti-India terrorists.
It has been for a long time that China has shielded Pakistan on terrorism. This must stop now, especially if China and need to cooperate on various matters involving World Order. Also it is in interest of China that all terrorist outfits in Pakistan are eradicated or one day it will burn down the Chinese political edifice itself.
The South Asian nation of Pakistan has been promoting terrorism for long as a State policy. India has been the victim of this menace and one day now it is going to wiping out all the terrorists. Balakote strike was just the opening salvo. Spread of terrorism by Pakistan and the backing given to it by China is one of the sore points in Indian ties with China.
Before talking about US’ trade protectionist policy at the event, this menace of terrorism and its eradication needs to be discussed. Otherwise there is danger of Pakistan itself getting eradicated.
“We have not set an agenda as such beforehand but I think some participation countries will be interests in this topic. Some leaders will express their views on these matters. It is only natural to see that happening,” he added.
Thus China saying that Pakistan should not be targeted on terrorism at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit this week is most unrealistic. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will raise the issue of Islamabad harbouring terrorists.
During his first foreign visit to the Maldives after being re-elected as India’s Prime Minister, Modi on Saturday indirectly attacked Pakistan, saying state sponsorship of terrorism is the biggest threat the world is facing today.
It will be in the interest of China that it cooperates with India.
