Free Lunch Over In Jammu and Kashmir For Ex – Chief Ministers And Others
Government of J& K had already asked Former Chief Ministers of Jammu & Kashmir to vacate their bungalows provided by Government of the State before November 1, 2019. From October 31, Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 will be implemented and under this law, all former Chief Ministers will have to vacate their govt Bungalows.
The new law will be enforced by the Government of the Union Territory of J& K which will come into effect 01 Nov 2019.
Earlier Government provided Bungalows to all Former Chief ministers of Jammu & Kashmir for lifetime without any rent but now under the new law after removal of Article 370, All former chief ministers of J&K will have to vacate their Bungalows before November 1.
These facilities were being provided to the former Chief Ministers for lifetime as per the Jammu and Kashmir State Legislature Member Pension Act, 1984. From 1996 onwards, many times it was amended and facilities were increased. But from November 1, the date of the implementation of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Bill 2019, all these benefits will be stopped.
Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Ghulam Nabi Azad, have already left the government bungalow which is in VVIP zone in Srinagar. Ghulam nabi Azad was the Chief Minister of the state from November 2005 to July 2008, since then the guesthouse of J&K Bank on Gupkar Road was allocated to him as a government accommodation. However, Azad does not live in Srinagar. Former Chief Minister has vacated J&K bank guest house.
These government bungalows used to be given to all the former Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir for living and These Bungalows were allocated for lifetime without even rent but things have changed now after the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A.
Former chief ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah have been under house arrest since August 5. Both of them also have large government bungalows on Gupkar Road. Both of them have to vacate these bungalows by 1 November. The State Property Department has made a list of government items, such as furniture, etc. present in these Bungalows.
Farooq Abdullah is the only living Chief Minister who does not have any government property. He is under house arrest in his private house but he still continues to have free medical care, transport and other facilities.
Every former chief minister of J&K has spent crores of rupees in the name of beautification and modernization of government bungalows. Omar Abdullah’s bungalow also have modern gym along with other amenities.
The bill to divide Jammu & kashmir into two parts was passed by Indian Parliament on 5th August, 2019 which divides Jammu & Kashmir into two Union Territories named as :
– The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir with a legislature
– The Union Territory of Ladakh without a legislature.
Both the Union Territories, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh will be administered by the President, through an administrator appointed by him known as the Lieutenant Governor.
