French To Show Solidarity With Republic of Taiwan
A view of Taipei
A delegation led by Francois de Rugy, former president of French National Assembly and the chairman of the “France-Taiwan parliamentary friendship group,” is planning to visit the island of Taiwan. This is a significant move by French politicians to show their solidarity with the Republic of Taiwan.
The support to democracy against dictatorship and naked aggression will also be a major attention for political parties and the people of France in the coming Presidential elections. The existing One China policy goes against the independence and freewill of the freedom loving people of Taiwan.
The Republic of Taiwan’s external affairs department extended in a release on Tuesday a warm welcome for the upcoming visit, while saying the date for the trip has yet to be finalized. It also stressed that the visit would be the second following a delegation of French senators led by Alain Richard in early October, during which members of that delegation held talks with ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader Tsai Ing-wen and other officials in Taipei.
De Rugy initiated the latest bill that encourages the participation of the Republic of Taiwan in international organizations such as the WHO and the International Criminal Police Organization, and was adopted by the French National Assembly in late November. No wonder this had resulted in immediate tantrum by the Chinese Embassy in France. The French move clearly exposed the naked aggression of one-China principle, blatantly insisted by a dictatorial Communist regime in China.
Taiwan has full status of an independent Country and recognized as such under the international law. It is not an inalienable part of China. This way Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh too cannot exist as a separate Country as they were inalienable part of India.
The Chinese government can keep harping on Taiwan as a temporarily breakaway State but the reality is that it is an independent country with all the Organs of a State including a formidable Armed Forces.
Slowly most of Europe, USA, India and most of Asia have recognized the aggression of Communist China against a democratic country like Taiwan. So now they have started various international cooperation in all fields with Taiwan in accordance with relevant international norms. Even international organizations have also started giving due place to Taiwan.
It is also worth noting that De Rugy had visited Taiwan and met with Tsai in July 2016 as vice president of the French National Assembly.
The French government has maintained a positive and pragmatic attitude toward the Taiwan status as an independent country. Though till now Paris was sending large-scale officials of lower ranks only on any visit to Taiwan. This may begin to change now.
