G20 summit in Brazil brings together over 40 countries

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov represents Russia at the event

More than 40 countries will take part in the Group of 20 summit that kicks off in Rio de Janeiro on Monday, according to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

“It is important that 42 countries will take part in the G20 summit in Brazil. Apart from discussing the fight against hunger and poverty, we will talk about energy transition, a topic in which our country has a major advantage, as well as global governance.

The United Nations needs reform to make sure its decisions are implemented,” the Brazilian leader wrote on X.

On Sunday, Lula da Silva met with his Angolan counterpart, Joao Lourenco, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, South African leader Cyril Ramaphosa as well as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the UAE delegation.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping, US President Joe Biden, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, French President Emmanuel Macron, Argentinian President Javier Milei and Colombian President Gustavo Petro have already arrived in Brazil to take part in the summit.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov represents Russia at the event.The G20 summit is taking place in Rio de Janeiro on November 18-19.
