General Bipin Rawat visits Maldives to strengthen bilateral defence ties
Indian Army Chief Bipin Rawat arrived in Maldives for a an official visit on Sunday. During Bipin Rawat’s visit, from September 30 to October 3, chief of the Army staff delegation will meet hierarchy of the Maldives government and its armed forces.
This visit is aimed at strengthening close bilateral defence ties between India and Maldives.
General Bipin Rawat is scheduled to meet Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Maldives Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi, Maldives Foreign Minister and Maldives Chief of National Defence Foreces and Major General Abdulla Shahid.
Republic of Maldives, due to its centrality to Indian Ocean region, has always held prime importance for India.
India extends full support to enhance capacity and capability development of Maldives Army as an equal partner. Military vehicles and military equipment would be exchanged to further cement the defence relationship.
