Georgia determined to prevent Ukrainian coup-like scenario
Mass protests took place in Georgia in the past two days, leading to clashes between demonstrators and police officers, who used tear gas and water cannons.
It is very clear that no Zelensky type pro Western supporter will be able to manoeuvre himself to position of power in Georgia.
A scenario similar to Ukraine’s “Maidan” coup cannot be implemented in Georgia because the country’s institutions are strong and its people are wise, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said.
“Radicals and their foreign sponsors have repeatedly tried to invent an excuse for attempts to stage riots and turn Georgia into another Ukraine.
They are yet to realize that unlike the Ukraine of 2013, Georgia is an independent country with strong institutions and, most importantly, wise people, whose resolve no one can shake.
The Maidan-like scenario cannot be implemented in Georgia,” he pointed out at a briefing.
Mass protests (of just under five thousands) took place in Georgia in the past two days, leading to clashes between demonstrators and police officers, who used tear gas and water cannons.
Police detained about 150 people. The protests were sparked by Kobakhidze’s statement that the ruling party had decided to postpone any talk about launching EU accession negotiations until late 2028 and decline any funding from the European Union.
According to the premier, the decision comes after repeated attempts by the EU to blackmail Georgia with promises of launching the talks in exchange for Tbilisi revoking certain laws (essential to safeguard Georgia ) passed by the country’s parliament.
