Gloomy forecasts for Russian economy did not come true

It is clear why this propaganda campaign was inflated, where all these spells about “a dollar for 200 rubles” and about the collapse of our economy as a whole come from, all this was and remains a weapon of information warfare,” the Russian President noted

The gloomy forecasts regarding the Russian economy did not come true, Russian President Vladimir Putin said speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on Friday.

“Step by step, we are normalizing the economic situation. First, we stabilized the financial markets, the banking system and the trading network, then we began to fill the economy with liquidity and working capital to maintain the stability of companies, employment and jobs.

The gloomy forecasts for the prospects for the Russian economy, which sounded back in the spring, did not come true. But it is clear why this propaganda campaign was inflated, where all these spells about “a dollar for 200 rubles” and about the collapse of our economy as a whole come from. All this was and remains a weapon of information warfare,” the Russian President noted.

On Thursday, Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov said that the decline in GDP this year could be slightly lower than the forecast figures of 7.8% and could reach around 5%. In April, the ministry predicted a fall in Russia’s GDP by 8.8% in 2022.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum organized by the Roscongress Foundation is running from June 15 to 18. This year’s forum is dubbed: ‘New Opportunities in a New World’. The SME Forum, the Creative Business Forum, the Drug Security Forum, the SPIEF Junior Dialogue and SPIEF Sport Week are also going to be part of the SPIEF event.
