Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra opens up on the third installment of Munna Bhai says, ‘I hope I make it this year.’ Munna Bhai M.B.B.S (2003) and Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006) starred Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi in lead roles.
After the stupendous success of Munna Bhai M.B.B.S (2003) and Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006), news of the third installment of the Munna Bhai series has been doing the rounds for the longest time.
And finally, filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra let the cat out of the bag as he says that he is hoping to start Munna Bhai 3 by the end of the year. That’s right! So, all the Munna Bhai fans can heave a sigh of relief as soon, they will get to see their very own Munna Bhai on the silver screen.
“I haven’t yet made my next Munna Bhai because I didn’t get a proper script. I hope I make it this year,” Vidhu Vinod Chopra informed Indian Express. Whether or not Rajkumar Hirani will direct the next installment of Munna Bhai is uncertain because of the #MeToo allegations against the director.
In 2016, when Sanjay Dutt was released from Yerwada Central Jail after completing his sentence for illegal possession of firearms in 1993, Vidhu Vinod Chopra had announced back then that the third installment of Munna Bhai will begin in 2017; however, the project got delayed. But looks like Munna Bhai 3 will finally see the light of the day and just like all the fans, we too are super thrilled with the news.
During the press conference of Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, Vidhu Vinod Chopra was asked about his stance on the sexual harassment allegations leveled against Hirani and Chopra had dodged the question saying that they have come here for another purpose and he will speak on the issue at the right time.
Recently, Arshad Warsi, popularly known as Circuit, was asked about Munna Bhai 3 and in an exclusive interaction with Pinkvilla, he had said, “The truth is that the last time I had a chat with Raju (Rajkumar Hirani), he mentioned that the script is being worked on. It’s doing well and moving fast and smooth.
Hopefully, by the end of 2019, he’s planning to start shooting. These are all desires and wishes and they could not be true, or they could happen, could not happen. But that’s how it is.”
Recently, as Munna Bhai clocked in 15 years, Sanjay Dutt had penned an emotional note on social media as he wrote, “#15YearsOfMunnaBhai brings back so many memories! Thank you
everyone, for loving the film so much. Big jadoo ki jhappi to you all!”
Currently, Vidhu Vinod Chopra is riding high on the success and critical appreciation for his latest film, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, directed by Shelly Chopra Dhar.
