Heart wrenching sympathy by USA for Canadian diplomats being kicked out of India

The ties between India and Canada have been strained for quite sometime because of Canada actively supporting Canadian terrorist groups carrying out terror activities in India.

Several Canadian groups comprising Canadian Sikhs have been actively propagating separatism in the Indian province of Punjab and their aim is to create a new country called Khalistan.

Recently the Canadian PM Justin Trudeau in September alleged that the Indian government was behind the fatal shooting of a Canadian terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India has out rightly rejected the claims, calling it ‘absurd’ and ‘motivated’.

Notably, Canada has yet to provide any public evidence to support the claim about the killing of this Canadian Citizen inside Canada. In fact this Canadian terrorist was a Wanted criminal in India. Rightly Canada should have arrested this terrorist and extradited him to India. Now these Canadian terror groups are also being supported by several American terrorists of Indian origin.

The Indian intelligence has been keeping a close watch on the activities of Canadians working or visiting India. A very large number of Canadians working in Canadian Embassy and their Consulates in India has been quite intriguing and their activities have been certainly not above board.

So after the Canadian PM openly accused India of killing the Canadian terrorist inside Canada, the relationship between the two countries nosedived. Mr Trudeau also indirectly accepted that his Government had been snooping on Indian diplomatic activities and even intercepting their conversations.

So after expulsion of an Indian diplomat by Canada India too reciprocated. Next Canada thinking itself to be a first world country tried to garner support from

USA, UK and others. Blinken tried to act smart but blinked first in front of Jaishanker. Then to cut down Trudeau a few notch, India just decided to order reduction in Canadian those extra diplomatic staff, the chaps helping out the mischief makers in India.

So Earlier this month, the Ministry of External Affairs had called for a reduction in Canadian diplomats in India citing their continued “interference” in New Delhi’s “internal matters”.

While addressing the press briefing on October 5, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, “Given the much higher presence of diplomats or diplomatic presence here…and their continued interference in our internal matters, we have sought parity in our respective diplomatic presence. Discussions are ongoing on the modalities of achieving this”.

Immediately Canada accused India of violating the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations Foreign Minister Melanie Joly on Thursday that Canada has removed 41 diplomats and their 42 dependants from India amid the ongoing row between the two countries.

Then on Friday, Justin Trudeau said the Indian government’s decision to revoke the diplomatic immunity of 41 Canadian diplomats is making normal life difficult for millions of people in both countries. “The Indian government is making it unbelievably difficult for life as usual to continue for millions of people in India and in Canada. And they’re doing it by contravening a very basic principle of diplomacy,” Trudeau told reporters at a televised press conference in Brampton, Ontario.

He further added, “It’s something that has me very concerned for the well-being and happiness of millions of Canadians who trace their origins to the Indian subcontinent.”

The Ministry of External Affairs just rejected Trudeau remarks and said that no international norms were violated in India seeking parity in the mutual diplomatic presence in New Delhi and Ottawa.

To support Trudeau, during a press briefing on Friday, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller stated, “We are concerned by the departure of Canadian diplomats from India in response to the Indian government’s demand of Canada to significantly reduce its diplomatic presence in India.” …..

US further urged the Indian government to cooperate in the ongoing Canadian investigation.

Miller further added that the US expect India to uphold its obligations under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. “We expect India to uphold its obligations under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, including with respect to privileges and immunities enjoyed by accredited members of Canada’s diplomatic mission,” he added.

We Indians are really touched by this heart-breaking scene of Miller conveying his concern to Trudeau.

Though Miller was outright snubbed by Indian MEA stating “We reject any attempt to portray the implementation of parity as a violation of international norms.”

Miller Ji just tell the Canadians that if they obey Indian laws while staying in India then all 42 of the Canadian diplomatic staff can continue their work without any fear, they need no diplomatic immunity. However any one violating Indian laws cannot stay here, they will at minimum be deported if not Jailed.
