Hungary not lifting veto on Ukraine’s admission to EU

“Therefore, until such sad situation remains, any progress in talks on Ukraine’s admission to the EU is out of the question,” Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said.

Hungary will not lift the veto on talks concerning Ukraine’s admission to the European Union.

The Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia had its rights taken away from it by Zelensky, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said after the telephone conversation with Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger, who visited Kiev a week ago.

“We have discussed today by telephone continuing violations of rights of the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia and integration efforts of Ukraine with my new Austrian counterpart.

I value readiness of Beate Meinl-Reisinger to help but the situation is such that the Ukrainian government, despite constant promises and fine words, has not returned until now rights to the Hungarian community that were taken away from it in 2015.

This is unacceptable and fully contradicts common European rights and values,” Szijjarto wrote on his page in Facebook.”

Therefore, until such sad situation remains, any progress in talks on Ukraine’s admission to the EU is out of the question,” the minister added.
