Illegal Yunus regime detrimental to humanity!

By Jagdish N Singh
It is highly unfortunate that the contemporary international community is still largely silent over the ongoing criminal attacks on Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh.
The United Nations is supposed to be the international community’s best representative to practice pluralism and individual freedoms. But it has been looking the other way.
The approach of the leading democratic nations, including India and the United States, is no better.Observers say the Hindus never had freedoms in Bangladesh, formerly East Pakistan. Because of their constant persecution, their percentage in the country’s population has fallen down drastically.
The Hindu population in East Pakistan at the time of India’s Partition was a huge 30 per cent. Today it stands at mere seven.
Even during the rule of the elected Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, freedom was scarce commodity to the Hindus. Hasina’s Awami League did have wings, such as ‘Chhatra League’ and ‘Jubo League’.
During her rule, there were also organizations, such as the Bangladesh Youth Unity Council, the Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, the Student Unity Council and the Women Unity Council.
But the minorities had little freedom to protest against injustice. Hasina’s Awami League cared little for the religious sentiments of the Hindus.
Once, one of her party members of parliament demonised Durga Puja as ‘Madjukto Puja‘ (festival of alcohol) . A League mayor referred to a Hindu MP as ‘malaun, ’ ‘nopungshak’ (impotent) and ‘chandal’ .
The attacks on the minorities in Bangladesh have increased ten-fold since Hasina fled the country in August last year and the current Muhammad Yunus-led regime took over in the country.
On coming to power, the Yunus regime lifted restrictions on organizations, such as Hizb ut-Tahrir (HuT), Hamas, Al-Qaeda, ISIS, Hamas, Hefazat-e-Islam (HeI), and Ansar al-Islam.
These organizations have intensified their persecution of Hindus, Christians, and all other religious minorities.
Observers say after Donald J Trump assumed the presidency of the United States in January this year and appointed Tulsi Gabbard as the country’s Director of National Intelligence, there were expectations that the plight of the minorities would come to an end soon. But so far, the Trump presidency has done little on the ground.
The presence of the radical Islamist -supported regime in Dhaka is highly detrimental to the cherished values of the entire contemporary humanity.
The supporters of the Yunus regime seek to establish of a Sunni caliphate and impose Sharia law on the land.
In the interest of the cherished values of India, the United States and the world, Washington and New Delhi must coordinate to dismantle the Yunus regime and help Bangladesh have a government committed to genuine democracy and all-inclusive development.
All progressive – minded souls of Bangladesh and the world are likely to rally behind the United States and India in dismantling the Yunus regime.
They must be aware the radical Islamism the Yunus regime is promoting is a threat to their shared values.
