“We’ve foiled a horrible conspiracy. Around 1.5 billion Taka came from Dubai through Hundi. The aim was to influence the national election,” said RAB Director General Benazir Ahmed recently.

Earlier RAB officials had confiscated 80 million Taka in cash and 100 million Taka in cheques from export-import firm and contractor United Corporations on the same floor of the City Centre and arrested its Managing Director Ali Haider.

The Bangladesh government has unearthed a plot by Pak spy agency ISI to influence December 30 parliamentary polls through Opposition BNP by pumping huge sums of money.

As per country’s Security Establishment, Son of ex Bangla PM, Tarique Rehman, who was jailed for 17 years for corruption and money laundering and for life over the deadly Aug 21, 2004 grenade attack, has been conspiring from London to influence the polls with huge money from Pakistan’s spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence or ISI.

Leading Bangla media BDnews24.com quoting RAB (elite police force of Bangladesh) reported that a huge sum of money has been brought illegally from abroad to influence parliamentary elections.

After finding an election campaign poster of Miah Nuruddin Ahmad Apu, a former assistant personal secretary to Tarique, the RAB raided his Amena Enterprise at Gulshan in Dhaka and arrested two of its officials.

Apu is running as a BNP candidate in the Dec 30 elections.

Those arrested at Amena Enterprise are its General Manager Joynal Abedin and Office Secretary Alamgir Hossain.

Joynal had close links to the ‘Hawa Bhaban’, a building at Banani that had been the centre of power during the BNP-Jamaat-e-Islami government.

The RAB chief said United Corporation, United Enterprise and Amena Enterprise were used to bring the money from Dubai. The owner of United Corporation, Mahmudul Hasan, is an expatriate living in Dubai.

United Enterprise is owned by Atiqur Rahman, a leader of the BNP’s student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal from Jhalakathi.

Apu was with Tarique when the son of BNP chief Khaleda Zia travelled to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah a few years ago.

Many BNP supporters expressed reservations when the party had named Apu as the candidate for the Shariatpur seat.

RAB was preparing money laundering and terrorism charges against the three arrested according to Bdnews24.com
