M7.7 earthquake strikes central Myanmar, tremors hit Thailand, China

A magnitude 7.7 earthquake central struck Myanmar on Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey said, with tremors reported as far away as neighboring Thailand and China.
In Bangkok, around 1,000 kilometers from the epicenter, a high-rise building under construction collapsed, The Associated Press reported, with Thai media saying 43 people were possibly buried alive.
Analysis by the USGS showed the earthquake struck at a depth of about 10 km, with strong shaking near Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city.
A second quake, in the magnitude 6 range, followed about 10 minutes later.
Witnesses saw several buildings collapse in Mandalay, according to Reuters.
