Modi’s Kiev visit has more weightage than any peace initiative by Xi Jinping

Prime Minister Narendra Modi looks on during at the start of the second working session of the G20 Leaders’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s to visit Poland was followed by a quick historic visit to Ukraine on Aug 21, marking the first visit by an Indian leader since Ukraine became a separate country on dissolution of USSR.

Now India a rising global economic and military power has already become the most trusted leader of global South. Earlier India was te leader of Non Aligned countries with just Moral Power now it has all other needed attributes of a Global Power. Also most important, unlike some of the other Powers, it has immense maturity and stands for peace.

So now India is prepared to contribute to resolving world conflicts starting with Russia – Ukraine. In time to come it should be resolving conflicts between USA – Iran, USA – North Korea, Israel- Palistine, China – Taiwan and most important, nearer home China -Tibet. Thus Modi’s visit, aims to repair ties between Russia and the West and the US. It has started with a largely symbolic gesture and in time to come turn into significantly advance peace talks.

Modi first completed a two-day visit to Poland and thereafter he travelled to Ukraine by train according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

This will be the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Ukraine after the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1992, India’s MEA said in a release on Monday. The MEA announced that Modi’s “landmark visit to Ukraine will help further consolidation and expansion of bilateral ties.”

Shortly after Modi’s return from a visit to Russia in July, India proposed a visit to Ukraine in an effort to initiate peace between the two estranged cousins.

Modi’s visit to Russia had sparked dissatisfaction among several Western countries, particularly the US but they could do nothing about it. Nowadays India makes its own decisions in such matters. By Modi’s visiting Ukraine, India aims to indicate to the World that it is now consolidating its position in this multipolar World.

However, the proposal to visit Ukraine was made before the foolish Ukrainian offensive in Russia’s Kursk region. So fir te present Modi’s visit to Ukraine will merely remain a gesture and will not have a substantial impact on the current situation.

India’s international status has risen in recent years and its influence has spread out to South East Asia, Indo Pacific, Cebtral Asia, Middle East, Africa and even South America.

Mediation in the Russia-Ukraine conflict will typically involve a major World Power like India facilitating negotiations along with smaller nations of glibal south collectively supporting it. USA and West will be kept in Check withdeft handling of things.

India now has the collective support from the global South and even a few of te West European countries. Even USA will have to fall in line sooner than later.

Though Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said on Monday that Moscow was not ready to hold peace talks for now given Kiev’s attack on Russia’s Kursk region, but that Russia was not withdrawing its earlier peace proposals, Reuters reported.
