National Security and Economic Self Sufficiency Should Guide India’s New China policy

There is likely to be de-escalation of border tensions between China and India as agreed to in the military to military talks. New Delhi is now very clear that China will henceforth be stopped in its expansionist campaign, wherever it tries.

At an all-party meeting on June 19, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Chinese did not enter Indian territory across the actual LC, nor were Indian posts taken. He did not mention the existing ground position that the Chinese are in occupation of a big chunk of Ladhak since 1950s and then had expanded a bit more in 1962. He however strongly criticized Chinese expansionism, saying “era of expansionism is over” during his he visit to a border military base. This was widely regarded as a message sent to China, though Modi did not mention China specifically.

India will no more keep quiet about Chinese expansionism across the Indo Tibetan Border or elsewhere It has decided that enough is enough and now is ready to defend it interests, even at the cost of a War, in case the Chinese make it inevitable.

After the Galwan Valley clash, India’s policy toward China has changed drastically. Now India is ready to meet force with force. We as a nation are ready to have talks but the first priority has to be the vacation by China of all occupied areas in Ladhak and final settlement of the Indo Tibetan Border. Next the border has to marked both on the map and the ground. Third a final decision on the grant of freedom to the Tibetans.
As it is,the Indian government, political parties, media and strategic circles have all clearly explained the nefarious expansionist design of the Chinese Government, the Chinese Communist Party and the PLA, not only to the Indian people but to the entire World. PLA is to be blamed for the souring bilateral relations and henceforth things cannot be as before. Till we have a settled border, India has decided to decouple economically from China. The decoupling has already started in a phased manner and continue till practically there remains just bare minimum trade relationship.

China-India relations have deteriorated drastically, and for this Beijing is to be blamed squarely. It has misjudged two aspects. First, China has failed to grasp the real picture of the newly emerging international political and economic patterns and trends – and where China fits in to these. China thinks it has become a Super Power. So it has intensified China-US competition, Washington under Trump has moved away from appeasing China, it has made up its mind to contain Beijing. On the other hand China has been deliberately trying to always equate India with Pakistan. It should no better that now India us the third largest economy in the World and in military prowess and quality even superior to China in most of the fields. USA has realized thus American strategists think now it is the time to take advantage to counterbalance China’s influence in Asia with that of India.

Second, China has made wrong judgments about India’s determination to safeguard territorial sovereignty in face of China Pakistan combined pressure. Since the Modi government assumed office in 2014, it has been adjusting its China policy. It hopes to resolve the border issue with China based on India’s will so that it could spare more energy to economic activities. Pakistan is now no match for India and if it does not make peace with India then it stands all the Chance to vanish as a nation. i
India has also started focusing on the strategic Ocean through which passes 80% of the world trade. It is the Ocean which is called the Indian Ocean and Chinese know why it is called so.

The US and Western public opinion have totally gone against China. Both USA and China are now moving rapidly towards a new Cold War. So Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has reiterated that New Delhi will never be a part of an alliance system. However if China continues its hostilities with India, then India will not hesitate in siding with Washington on various issues.

Many Indian scholars have attributed deteriorating China-India ties to Beijing’s clandestine engagements with countries and regions around India, in order to undermine India. Naturally India will also not hesitate any more to improve its relationship with Taiwan and Quad Countries. India will also start supplying weapons as demanded by various neighbours of China. Chinese atrocities against Quighers and Tibetan will be highlighted in all forums and all possible help will be extended to these unfortunate people.
