New Delhi will not permit “business as usual” by Beijing, till Indo Tibetan and China Tibet border get demarcated
Recently, India has come down nice and proper on Chinese companies doing business in India. Now they will have to obey Indian laws and meet India’s requirement in full. In June, the Indian government ordered that Chinese companies including Xiaomi and OPPO must appoint Indian nationals as their CEOs, COOs, CFOs, CTOs, and other key positions in their Indian manufacturing units.
Earlier the enforcement agency of the Indian Ministry of Finance in 2022 had issued a fine of approximately INR 5945Crores ( 4.8 billion yuan) to Xiaomi’s subsidiary located in India. Since Galwan attack by PLA of Communist Party of China, India has ensured that China cannot have business as usual with India. The confidence has been shattered by the Chinese attack on the Indian Army. So since Galwan India has banned hundreds of Chinese applications, displaying a strong stance of economic stand against Chinese backstabbing.
During his meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister Shri Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Indonesia on Friday, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, urged India to provide a fair, transparent and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese companies.
Well India’s stand is VERY CLEAR. You want to do business with us then first withdraw from occupied territories, demarcate the Indo Tibetan border and the China Tibet border.
India’s crackdown on Chinese enterprises is as per the laws of trade and economics with a foreign country. For proper business there has to be trust, confidence and friendship. China may be a major global manufacturing country and India’s industry can make faster progress with partnership with Chinese industry. In fact over the years, India has been importing a large number products and components from China. This effectively reduces the production costs of Indian companies, improves production efficiency, increases the global competitiveness of Indian products, and drives India’s exports to European and American countries.
However all this has to come to a stop incase there is no Mutual Trust and Confidence. India can and is making rapid progress and will not be dependent on China or any other country.
Chinese companies, represented by the smart phone industry, have invested in India in recent years, which has boosted employment in the region and improved the quality of the workforce. However it has also helped China immensely. This is very clear from the fact that Chinese Government is protesting incessantly over India’s actions. Well India will not buzz as there will be NO BUSINESS AS USUAL.
India is catching up with countries and regions such as China, the US, Europe, and Japan in the field of digital economic development and has even surpassed some ofthem in certain fields. India is accelerating its economy catching up with key technology areas such as cell phones and promote the digital transformation of the economy. Ultimately, India’s position in the smart phone industry chain is going to be in top two. The rest of the world now generally holds India in high regard. This is evident from various Asian, African and other Global events.
India’s motivation appears to be nationally driven. After nearly 190 years of British colonial rule the flag of nationalism has been raised by India. Till 17th Century India was the top economic power in the World and is now determined to reach the position once again.
In fact, as the world’s two largest developing countries and eternal neighbors, China and India clearly should have more common interests than differences. India has always viewed and handled the India China relationship from a strategic and long-term perspective. Even in times of difficulty, India’s position never wavered. China should reciprocate and find a mutually acceptable solution to the border issue rather than letting the problems fester.
India has become the fifth largest economy in the world in US $ GDP and it is rising. In real terms that is PPP it is already at number 3 position right behind China and catching up fast. At the same time, the US views China as its main competitor and the most significant geopolitical challenge and continues to increase its support for a democratic India.
The US has realized that now it’s a multipolar world and therefore wants friendship with a rising India. India’s actions will be on the increase in the international political arena and China cannot coerce the Indo Pacific nations anymore.
During Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to the US in June, India has clearly indicated that it welcomes friendship with America provided it is based on equality. However the aim is not to contain China but deepening cooperation with the US. This probably is the reason why China is thinking that Indian actions are for suppressing Chinese companies.
India just wants to tell China ….NO BUSINESS AS USUAL TILL YOU MEND YOUR WAYS.
