New York Times Compares Delhi Police With Racist New York Police Publishes Outright Lies

The New York Times on Tuesday carried a story titled ‘how Delhi’s Police turned against Muslims’ on its website

The Indian Police Service (IPS) Association on Thursday strongly condemned an article published in the New York Times calling it a combination of biased reporting, dangerous innuendo, and outright lies.

In a series of tweets, the IPS Association said, “We strongly condemn the article in New York Times on the conduct of Police in Delhi riots, which is a combination of biased reporting, dangerous innuendo, and outright lies. The article is clearly a concerted effort to denigrate and defame Indian Institutions.”

3/3 It is easy to cast aspersions on Police but here is a reminder that 2 security personnel have lost their lives in the riots and more than 70 were injured.

It also tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the tweets.

“It is easy to cast aspersions on Police but here is a reminder that two security personnel have lost their lives in the riots and more than 70 were injured. India’s Police forces will keep doing their duty and ensure every Indian is protected, the IPS body said in a second tweet.

The remarks came after the American newspaper carried a story titled ‘How Delhi’s Police Turned Against Muslims’ on its website. The article accuses Delhi police of being complicit in Delhi violence.

It says, “More evidence has emerged that the Indian police took part in violence against Muslims or stood aside during fighting in the capital last month.”
