Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Gurgaon stretch of the Dwarka Expressway on Monday. He inspected the expressway with Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on foot.

CM Khattar had inspected the preparations at the site on Sunday.

Features of the Dwarka Expressway

The 29-km-long Dwarka Expressway — 18.9 km (length-wise) in Haryana and the remaining 10.1 km in Delhi — starts from Shiv-Murti on National Highway 8 and ends near the Kherki Daula toll plaza, according to a report News Agency.

The Expressway will connect Shiv Murti near IGI Airport to Kherki Daula toll, offering an improved commuting option for people travelling from Gurgaon to Delhi.

The elevated eight-lane access-controlled expressway is the first of its kind in India and includes tunnels, underpasses, flyovers and elevated structures. It includes a unique 34-metre-wide elevated road supported by single pillars over a length of 9 km.

Construction

Being built at an estimated cost of Rs 9,000 crore, it is segmented into four parts, with two in Delhi (10.01 km) and two in Haryana (18.9 km), the report stated. The project entails a substantial investment, with the first phase in Delhi costing Rs 2,507 crore, the second phase Rs 2,068 crore, the third phase Rs 2,228 crore, and the fourth phase Rs 1,859 crore.

The structure being built in four phases, covers different segments from Shiv Murti in Mahipalpur to Bijwasan (5.9km), Bijwasan ROB to Delhi-Haryana border in Gurgaon (4.2km), Delhi-Haryana border to Basai ROB (10.2km) in Haryana, and Basai to Kherki Daula cloverleaf interchange (8.7km).
