Protest held at Maitighar for legalisation of marijuana in Nepal
The protestors also demanded release of Rajiv Kafle, a long time advocate of legalisation of the herb in the country and abroad. He was arrested on charge of possession, consumption and distribution of marijuana two weeks ago.
A group of youth from Kathmandu Valley organised a protest at Maitighar on Monday lobbying for the legalisation of marijuana in Nepal.
The protestors also raised slogans demanding the release of Rajiv Kafle, a long time proponent of legalisation of marijuana and its products in Nepal.
Police had arrested Kafle on charge of possession, consumption and distribution of marijuana on September 6 after police recovered 83 grams of marijuana in possession of a worker at Kafle’s hotel.
50-year-old Kafle has long been advocating for the reinvention of the status of the herb in the country and abroad.
The supporters of the protest held placards with enticing slogans such as “Ganjabadi Ek Hau”, “Desh Ganja Khane Le Hoina, Na Khane Le Bigareko Ho”, among others, citing the medicinal and economic benefits of decriminalisation of the herb in the country.
