Russian ships barred from visiting Bangladesh due to US pressure
“We regret that this is not the first time that Dhaka submits to such unceremonious pressure from Washington,” Maria Zakharova said
Dhaka’s ban for Russian ships to enter ports of Bangladesh was introduced not on its own initiative, but under threat of secondary sanctions from the US, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said during a briefing Friday.
“We are aware that several dozen Russian ships were prohibited from entering ports of Bangladesh. We know that this unfriendly step was taken by the country’s authorities not on their own initiative. It was made under threat of secondary sanctions from the US. This is yet another example of such intimidation,” she said.
“We regret that this is not the first time that Dhaka submits to such unceremonious pressure from Washington. By submitting to blatant blackmailing, it risks making the future of the traditionally friendly Russian-Bangladeshi relations dependent on the whims of a third country that pursues its own geopolitical goals,” the diplomat added.
