CISF GUARD AT ACTIVIST’S HOUSE SHOOTS HIMSELF
A 43-year-old Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) guard posted at the Juhu-Tara Road bungalow of activist Teesta Setalvad allegedly committed suicide on Saturday morning by shooting himself with his service rifle.
The Santacruz police said the guard hailed from Rajasthan and had returned from month-long leave to rejoin work on February 5. The cops said the reason behind his suicide is not yet clear.
According to the police, victim Bhanwar Lal Naik came to work at 10.30 am on Saturday. “He went to the garden behind the house and allegedly shot himself. The bullet pierced his chin and head,” said a police official.
Naik was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on admission. The post-mortem was carried out at KEM hospital in Parel.
While the Santa Cruz police have registered an accidental death report in the matter, the CISF has initiated simultaneous inquiry. The police have not recovered any suicide note but found the rifle near the spot of the incident.
