Suga San And Modiji Are Statesman, ready to cooperate but cannot be controlled or coerced By Others
PM Modi and Japanese PM Suga held talks ahead of Quad leaders’ virtual summit on 9th March 2021. It was a clear signal to both USA and China that QUAD was going to be a cooperative action for maintainance of peace and Freedom in the Indo Pacific. It was not going to be a Eastern NATO under control of USA to coerce China or Russia. It would be akin to military cooperationn undertaken by a score of countries to fight PIRACY off the African Coast
While the Indian statement did not specify any of the above or any of the global challenges, Japanese MoFA statement did mention that the Japanese premier raised concerns regarding Chinese aggression and the situation in Hong Kong, Xinjiang, and the military coup in Myanmar.
“Prime Minister Suga expressed serious concerns regarding unilateral attempts to change the status quo in the East and South China Sea, China’s Coast Guard Law and the situation in Hong Kong and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR). Prime Minister Suga also asked for understanding and cooperation toward the early resolution of the abductions issue by North Korea,” said the Foreign Ministry of Japan.
A large number of US and European think tanks and even their followers in India are urging
Suga Ji and Modiji, to form the QUAD under the American flag to take on the common threat of China and not just express mere concerns. These Strategists are raising the bigey of an Opponent who is dynamic, real, and present. The opponent has hegemonistic mindset. It is spreading its tentacles like a hydra. The aggressive bully cannot be contained otherwise than an EASTERN NATO.
As per them “Weak societies discuss concerns, strong societies act. It is about time that real action on ground takes shape. The moment of History is for all of us to grasp.” This kind of statement shows that USA is now a de lining force but still wants to stay on top through others.
Great Nations like India and Japan work through ‘cooperation’ and ‘shared values’ approach. They do not form military blocks at drop of a hat. India even in the days of yore never joined either the CENTO or WARSAW pact.
Areas of military and Civil collaboration will be defined clearly even in a normal Quad without turning it into a military block. Both nations have a started to play their role not merely in diplomatic corridors but actually in the Indo Pacific. A the cooperation grows between India and Japan it will send clear signal to the Chinese and they will desist from any MAD actions. Doklam, Maldives and Galwan incidents have cleared all the Cobwebs in their mind…..India will not back down any more.
Thus QUAD which has now identified the problem must now start a cooperative action in the entire Indo Pacific.
India is working towards creating the Military Industrial Complex through the Defence Corridors. Indian Government has also prepared the list of items which it will not import over next 48 months, and it would focus on defence purchases which are made in India. India is aiming to be an export hub for Defence Equipment in future.
Japanese Self Defence forces too have been working closely with the Japanese private sector who are supporting them for their defence needs in all three theatres namely, land, sea, and air.
So both the countries can start cooperating in the defence economic sector without threatening any third party or forming a military bloc.
