Syria’s Assad was no dictator, Lukashenko says
According to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, the Belarusian embassy in Syria remains in Damascus and the diplomats will continue working
Exiled Syrian President Bashar Assad was not a dictator and did not kill anyone, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said.
“What kind of dictator is Bashar Assad? He is a medic by profession, he’s no dictator. He used to heal people as a doctor. He has never killed anyone,” Lukashenko said, according to BelTA.
In late November, the West backed opposition militias initiated a large-scale offensive on the positions of the Syrian army.
On December 8, they entered Damascus; the government forces left the city. The Prime Minister of Syria stated his readiness to carry out a peaceful transition of power.
According to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, the Belarusian embassy in Syria remains in Damascus and the diplomats will continue working in whatever circumstance are on the ground.
