Thaksin’s daughter nominated by Thai coalition parties as PM candidate

Thailand’s ruling coalition on Thursday decided to nominate Paetongtarn Shinawatra, daughter of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, as its candidate for prime minister, her party said.

The decision to endorse the leader of the Pheu Thai Party for a parliamentary vote scheduled on Friday follows a Constitutional Court ruling dismissing Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin over an ethical violation related to his appointment of a minister.

If elected, Paetongtarn, 37, will become the youngest prime minister in Thailand’s history and the second woman to hold the office.
