Ottawa has closed four border crossings between Canada and the United States after the vehicle explosion on the Rainbow Bridge, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said at the parliament.
“[The] updates I can give right now is there are four border crossings that are right now closed,” Trudeau said mentioning the Rainbow Bridge among them.
It has been reported citing sources that investigators had found “some sort of suitcase or briefcase on scene”, which may contain an explosive device. The bomb squad is handling the package, the television channel added.
Law enforcement officers are searching for a second vehicle suspected of being involved in the explosion on the Rainbow Bridge connecting the United States and Canada in Niagara Falls.
Earlier, the television channel reported citing sources that two people were killed and a border officer was injured when a vehicle exploded at the Rainbow Bridge border crossing. The two killed people were in the vehicle. It is specified that the border officer suffered minor injuries.
The border crossings near Niagara Falls have been closed after the incident. The FBI is investigating the incident as an attempted terrorist attack among other versions.
